About Marie

Dr. Marie Sakamoto, PT, DPT was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai’i where she grew up surfing, swimming, and playing water polo for ‘Iolani School. She attended the University of Southern California for her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Minor in Psychology then continued on to obtain her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2016. She worked in Los Angeles for a few years at a hospital-based outpatient and inpatient setting before moving back to Hawai’i. She spent five years at a private outpatient orthopedic practice treating a variety of post-operative patients, triathletes, surfers, tennis/pickleball players, high school athletes, dancers, cross-fitters, and weekend warriors. During this time she received extensive training and experience in manual therapy techniques and continuing education in vestibular training, management of youth athletes, and blood-flow restriction training. She then spent a year in Portland, Oregon also working with an orthopedic and athletic population, with a particular focus on rehabilitation post ACL-reconstruction.

Finally back home in Honolulu for good, Marie decided to start her own business as a concierge physical therapist in early 2025. She strongly believes this has allowed her to serve her patients to the best of her ability by delivering one-on-one, personalized, and convenient care. She is committed to empowering her patients with education and tools that they can use for a lifetime of health and high performance.

Outside of work, Marie is a mom to a very active toddler and a couch potato rescue dog. She and her husband love spending time at the beach or sharing good meals with family and friends. In her (rare) free time, Marie enjoys dancing Tahitian and Hula, lifting weights or doing yoga, and getting out for a surf on her longboard.
